A Book Review of Dr. Pam Garcy & an Interview to Get to Know Me
I was fortunate enough to receive an autographed copy of Dr. Garcy’s book “The Power of Inner Guidance“. She is a clinical psychologist and lectures around the Dallas area on success, motherhood, living through love and guidance and much more. Dr. Garcy is a very inspirational woman and I am pleased to present her book to you. I also had the pleasure of being interviewed by Evita Ochel of Evolving Beings this week. The questions were thought provoking and I hope you take the time to read the interview and get to know me better. As always, comments and questions are always welcome.
Dr. Pam Garcy - “The Power of Inner Guidance” - A Book Review
Dr. Garcy in “The Power of Inner Guidance: Seven Steps to Tune in and Turn On” outlines a simple yet effective way to get in touch with your inner guidance. Dr. Garcy credits Dr. Albert Ellis for creating Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT). Applying REBT to her own life enabled her to come up with a 7 step system that she also uses for her clients. Dr. Garcy has also worked with and learned from Jack Canfield (creator of The Chicken Soup for the Soul series) who she is pictured with here as well as many other notable coaches.
Dr. Garcy begins the book with a fictional scenario of two brothers. You instantly RELATE to the story and the metaphor she paints with them draws you right in. As a mother of three and a clinical psychologist she understands the time restraints and blocks that can come up which are “difficult” to remove. From Chapter Two:
“Almost always, you’ll face balancing acts that will challenge your progress. These will involve various forms of sacrifice (time, effort, energy, and money). In almost every case of triumph, a tale of perseverance and frustration precedes the success story. Once you accept that there is a price to pay for results, and that things frequently don’t happen exactly as you desire, you will be able to enter into your life’s purpose (which you’ll select and create) with your eyes open and your heart encouraged.”
Dr. Garcy defines the “inner guide” as “the still, small voice within that coaxes us to approach or avoid, depending upon what is in our best interests”. She recognizes that people have many different beliefs as to who or what that inner voice is be it a higher power, intuition, guidance or many other alternatives. Dr. Garcy makes this book applicable to all by not defining WHAT the source is but leaving up to our own personal definition. She describes her idea of SMART Inner Guidance and then explains how to tune in and use it by utilizing her seven step plan.
Dr. Garcy incorporates her many years of clinical practice and learning from many different schools of thought to teach the reader how to use a multipurpose plan of action to greatly improve the chances of success personally and professionally. She begins with her Triad of Acceptance which I think is brilliant. Acceptance is threefold — acceptance of yourself, others and life as you know it. I love her following words from this chapter:
“Obviously, in an extremely poor situation, it can be challenging to accept what is. Remember, however, acceptance is different from resignation. Acceptance is the starting point for freeing yourself to determine what you want to do or think about next. Situations may be very bad, and people may act very badly, but nonacceptance leads you down a nonproductive road of blaming, complaining and shutting down. Would you rather shut down, or acknowledge what it is and then rise to the challenge?”
Dr. Garcy gives practical steps at the end of each chapter to strengthen the point you have just read about. She guides you through setting up your space internal and external for maximum growth and for receiving your inner guidance. The stories she uses as examples all give a clear vision and you want to keep reading to find out what the next step is.
I was tempted to fly through Dr. Garcy’s book as it is easy to read and less than a hundred pages. I was very happy I took my time with it and thought about her questions and implemented her ideas into my life. Some were similar to my own “Paging Me System” but others I had never thought about before. The book ends with part two of the story of the two brothers and comes full circle. Dr. Garcy has written a very good book on how to tune in and turn on your inner guidance system. Thank you Pam for sharing this with me so I could share it with my readers. I hope you go visit Dr. Pam Garcy’s site to learn more about her and if you are in the Dallas area look up her lecturing and event schedule. I recommend “The Power of Inner Guidance” and would love to hear your thoughts on this book.
Evita Ochel from “Evolving Beings” Interviews Jenny Mannion
I met Evita through my Heroes of Healing Group Writing Project. She wrote about James Ray and Helen Schucman and William Thetford (who I was not aware actually transcribed “A Course in Miracles” (ACIM)). I had always heard about ACIM being associated with Marianne Williamson (also on the Heroes list and written about by Lisa Erickson) so was excited to learn about the people credited with transcribing this inspirational and world-renowned book. James Ray I had seen live and he was one of the first teachers I began studying after seeing the movie “The Secret”. I was very grateful for the Heroes Evita chose to write about.
Evita’s blog Evolving Beings is inspirational and part of her site which also includes Evolving Wellness and Evolving Scenes. Evita and her husband, Markus created the site in order to:
” reach and inspire more people to achieve and live a life full of fulfillment, joy and peace with oneself and others. To live a life where no matter where you are and what happens - you are in love with life and feel the utmost gratitude to be alive. And most importantly, to live a life based on a continuous drive to manifest the highest version of who you are in all arenas of your life by living consciously!”
I really enjoyed answering Evita’s questions and I hope you will take the time to visit and read the interview. Thank you Evita for the opportunity. I am grateful to share my story, my goals and what has helped me to heal.
Thank you Evita and Dr. Garcy for being inspirational people promoting awareness and sharing your messages and teachings with the world!

Hi Jenny: I agree with Dr. Garcy that acceptance is not the same as resignation. If you’re struggling with a situation as it is at the moment, you can’t move beyond it. It’s only when you completely accept what’s going on around you in the now–no matter how unfair and bizarre the situation may be–that you can truly start taking steps to move toward a better state.

Every one has built into them a unique ability that feels natural. When your connect with the excited enthusiastic feeling, you begin to connect with why you create the results that define your life. You may have heard when your vocation becomes your vaction, then you will realize new levels of happiness and contentment. You have to commit to things to make them priorities in your life. I look forward to reading the book you describe as well as the interview on Evita’s site.

Hi Marelisa,
Sorry for the delayed response — I just got back from being away over the weekend. EXACTLY is what I thought when I read your comment. I’ve explained it in some posts as understanding that whatever happened happened. There was a reason for it occurring and in attempting to figure out what you have learned from the experience and by also saying “I am not letting this hold me back any longer” you are then able to move forward. Doesn’t mean in a world designed by you — that you would opt for it to happen again… but we all know life is filled with unexpected turns… “Getting” acceptance is a key part to continued forward motion. Thanks so much for your comment!
Hi Liara,
Ohh how true! Healing is my passion and this weekend I experienced it on a whole new level. I am excited, a bit overwhelmed and basically tingling with excitement. JUST when I thought my love for sharing healing could not get any greater — here some “The Reconnection” to prove there are indeed ways for my love to deepen. It is truly amazing to love what you do and the empowerment and focus that comes with it really is just filling me up with tears of joy and gratitude today! Thanks for your support Liara — I hope you enjoy the interview and Dr. Garcy’s book.
With lots of love and gratitude,
Jenny

Hello Jenny!
Oh where do I begin
I know I have said this already, but I am so, so happy that I have met you in this virtual world and have had the opportunity to be part of your project and get to know you through the interview a little better.
As I have also mentioned, I do not suffer from anything physical in my life, BUT know so many people that do and that is why I find YOUR story so valuable! Because deep down, no actually all over me :), I believe and live by the holistic approach to health and wellness and KNOW that our bodies were meant and made to heal themselves, given the right support system! And it does not get any better than having the Law of Attraction as one’s support system! Combining the holistic approach to health and the power of our thoughts - WOW - what a winning combination!!!
As for Dr. Garcy, I love the explanation about the “inner guides” - indeed we all have something like that and it is just a matter of labeling it or giving it a name we are comfortable with. I am currently loving the expansion of communication with mine!
And finally Jenny - thank you and I am so touched by your kind words about Evolving Beings. That site has been such a pleasure to write on. Whether we know it or not, we are all evolving beings - for that is our essence, to learn, to change, to grow! Some of us just get so caught up by the physical illusions, that we forget that and live in unease or even dis-ease, as our souls crave to grow and evolve.
Every person that I have come across on that site has been such a unique example of an Evolving Being and because I truly believe that life can be blissful no matter what, I too love the opportunity to inspire anyone that may be seeking it!
Thank you again for this wonderful connection and for the amazing example of an Evolving Being that you are!

Hi Evita,
It was my pleasure and I am very grateful for the opportunity.
My eyes keep opening wider with just HOW self healing we are. I went to a “Reconnection” seminar this past weekend and feel like even as open minded as I was — life will never be the same for me. I saw miracles. I had myself creating sensations and healing in others WITHOUT touching them.
All I know is we, as humans know very little about how the mind/body really works. They have figured out only what 8% of our DNA does and 10% of our brain function is…. the rest is all TBD. Amazing! I feel we are beginning to tap into what people in the East and ancient civilizations have known for years as the pharmaceutical industry is proving it is not a HEALING industry rather a masking symptom business. I’m not against all traditional meds but WOW Evita am I amazed at what we can do all on our own!
Okay - got off topic — sorry — my brain is still trying to comprehend all that happened this weekend and my heart attempting to figure out how to integrate this into my life as I know I will.
Thanks again for EVERYTHING!
Love, Jenny

I have read your interview, congratulations on this.
While on my path of learning, I discovered that we already know everything there is to know, we just need to decode that information. I stopped devouring everybody’s books, and began to listen to my own “rememberings”. Everyone has their path, and I honour yours.

“In almost every case of triumph, a tale of perseverance and frustration precedes the success story.” Too true. Almost makes you wish for challenges doesn’t it?

Spookygirl,
Thanks for reading the interview. You can find the book through the link on this site or through Dr. Garcy’s site. Thanks for your comment and welcome!
Witchypoo,
Thank you. I, too agree we have all we need but also believe by studying others you can “remember” and trigger WHAT you need to know. I love finding teachers that resonate because then I “get” things quickly and it does feel like a “remembering”. Thanks so much for leaving a comment.
Hey Tom,
Thanks so much for visiting and commenting.
Yes, ALMOST…;-) I am grateful for the challenges thus far being a believer in the law of attraction I won’t go ahead and wish for any more….. I know they will come all on their own.
