A month ago I was thrilled to bring you four clips from the life changing movie, “What If?“. Now it is my pleasure to bring you my interview with the Director of this amazing movie, James Sinclair. James is an inspiration and an absolute pleasure to speak with. His movie, “What If?” encompasses many of my core beliefs about the mind/body connection and the power of the mind. It felt like a gift for me to be able to speak with James Sinclair and ask him questions. Our interview went for over 45 minutes so I will splitting it into 2 sections. Enjoy Part I and please leave comments.
James Sinclair
James Sinclair has a long list of credits to his name. He is a visionary and has been involved in television, film, holistic healing and the power of the mind for many years. From leading a top alternative health center as executive director in the Catskill Mountains to creating the largest talent agency in Alberta to interviewing many of the most renowned names in natural healing, James’ passion for life and inspiring people shines in whatever he does. It was my great pleasure to talk with James and get to know him. I know you will enjoy learning about him and “What If?“. You will also enjoy his inspirational and conscious way of speaking. Thank you James for this opportunity!
Interview With James Sinclair Part I:
Jenny: Hi James, First I wanted to thank you. I really enjoyed “What If?” and think it is a very important movie. It encompasses a lot of my core beliefs. I wanted to thank you for making the movie and for this opportunity. I wanted to ask you if you could give my readers a brief background of yourself and what led you up to making the film.
James: Thank you. It was interesting. I was always struggling with school, every year I had almost failed. They would have a meeting with my family and they would say, “he barely passed, he did pass, but maybe we should hold him back”. I was always struggling in school mainly because I was a teenager and going through the emotions. My mom gave me this book called, “The Power of Your Subconscious Mind” and everything just lit up inside me and I resonated so well with the concept.
I realized after reading the book that actually my life wasn’t something that was just handed to me and that I actually had a say over my life. I could see how I was programmed and I could see the culmination between my reality and my thoughts. That was very powerful for me to realize that. So I began to make changes in my life. Something happened that I almost didn’t expect and I had a glimpse of my divine true self. And in this awakening, that is what I call it an awakening, I saw the light in everybody. I totally loved myself and liked myself for the first time in my life. I ended up studying less and my grades were all A’s and B’s. Everything changed but the most profound experience was my relationship with myself. I saw the same light in everyone and then I began to see light in almost everything… mainly in nature; trees, leaves, flowers.
It lasted about a year – it’s not like it went away or was completely gone. I was left like I was this teenager again stuck and not loving myself. It felt like a horrible experience and I actually felt that I was back in the body. But then I began to understand and it was finally like “I get it”. We can change our thoughts and change our reality. All changes are temporary until we are really clear with the deep emotional root. We make changes on that level and our life changes. I began to do a lot of processing work.
My goal of my life had never been to get married or make money but to have this experience again which is what I believe is just scratching the surface. Just the beginning stage of enlightenment and I wanted to get back to that place. That became the motivation behind everything I have done in my life. I did that and then I participated in the world more with business and finances and everything just fell into place. Every core belief that I let go of — I felt more of this divine self shining through me. This experience was really what motivated me to do the film. I wanted to do this film for quite a long time but a lot of things needed to line up to get it into production.
Jenny: Wow that is an amazing story – thank you for sharing your experience James. WHY did you choose the title “What If?’?
James: Since I was a little kid I always asked “What If?” questions for everything. The goal of the film was to reflect truth that is in everybody and what resonates with them and to reflect what everyone knows to be true. Our whole agenda with the film was just suggesting like asking “What If?” this is possible. If it doesn’t resonate with you – that’s great – that’s your spirit talking to you. But, “WHAT IF?” We thought it was a nice gentle approach. After naming it that we talked to Dr. Joe Dispenza from the cast of the movie – he said that in his book (he had just printed it and gave us a copy) he talks about his work and the “what if concept”. He says every time we question “what if?” we actually begin to create new neuro-pathways in the brain. We can change just by questioning “What If?”
Jenny: That’s amazing and as it relates to myself I remember after seeing The Secret that is what I came away with, “what if all they said about health is true and I could heal myself?” I definitely resonate with how powerful that term is. What is the core message you would like people to come away with after seeing your movie?
James: If it resonates with them, then that:
“We are more than we think we are.”
That we really are something so great and so vast and complete love and pure. That’s really the message of the film. There are lots of sub messages – we get into the possibility of immortality, control above the genes and a lot of other topics.
But it really is getting back to who we are.
Jenny: I love your definition of enlightenment in the movie you say it is “living without limitations”, “becoming like Buddha”, “becoming like Christ”, becoming “like our true selves – the own individual expression of unlimitedness of who you really are.” Many think of enlightenment as this far out concept only obtainable by Buddhist monks yet in my studies I have found this is really a getting back to basics in an extreme sense. What would you suggest is the first step if after seeing this movie people resonate and say,”yeah this is what I want but what do I do first?”
James: Very good question. I think it’s always to go inward and go with what feels right. We talk about intuition in the film or resonance or a lot of police officers call it “gut instinct”. GO within and just ask, “say this is who I want to be, what’s going on? I feel like something is blocking me, how can I release this? What is my next step?” The answer comes and there are many techniques but we barely touch on them in this film. There are so many techniques out there that can be great tools for transformation to let go of core beliefs. One of them is transcendental meditation and the philosophy of that is as we release stress and core beliefs – (and all our core beliefs are rooted in stress and fear) – and as we dissolve them we don’t have to look for our divinity – it is already there and it comes shining through.
Jenny: Dan Brule tells the story of the prison inmate who kept having his teeth knocked out and re-growing them because he was never taught that they wouldn’t grow back. This is one of the many examples given in the film that expresses so clearly the power of the mind. When you turn on the news it is not usually these inspirational stories we hear. Do you believe that at some point these stories will become mainstream? Are we headed that way?
James: Yes. That is one of the intentions of the film. If we could influence in any way the awakening of consciousness inside all of us then this film is doing a great service. I really think that is the responsibility or the goal of all media. Everything can enlighten and help wake us up and inspire us. Then we would have a completely different world. Yes, it is changing. Even on Good Morning America now when they are talking about the global economic crisis they have Tony Robbins on there looking for different solutions and talking about how we can look at this differently and how we can deal with this instead of just listening to the economists. On Regis and Kelly they have a “Good News Moment” where they focus on the positive. Can you imagine if all the news focused on the positive? Little by little we’re seeing a shift. I think it’s growing exponentially here.
Jenny: I am certainly am hoping for that. I see in my own life and in coaching people who watch the news a lot it can spiral people downward. I encourage people to limit news or watch the Happy news and I saw in your biography that you did a Good News program.
James: I got tremendous reviews from that. People are turning away from news more and more every month and they don’t know what to do about it. They are doing things to pull readers back and it still wasn’t working. SO now they are concentrating on more positive things. It would be a great way to inspire more change.
Jenny: I totally agree – thank you. I love Dr. Lipton’s quote in the movie and it is an important theme in “What If” and in consciousness in general. The quote is “You are personally responsible for things in your life once you become aware you are personally responsible for them”. Many are hesitant or scared to take responsibility for the life they have created and put blame on themselves or on others for their current situation. I, too was unconscious for a long time and I feel this quote can empower people to realize that their life can begin NOW and just knowing that makes it a real possibility. In my coaching system I find pardoning/forgiveness of yourself and others is usually the first step and it is also mentioned as crucial in “What If?”. Some people say there are unforgivable acts. How do you feel people can begin to forgive what some consider the unforgivable?
James: I think we are responsible for our lives. In making the film we were conscious that there is a very fine line between empowerment and blame. Especially when we all have core beliefs. Someone did a study that estimated 96% of the planet has the core belief that they are not good enough or are unworthy. I think that goes pretty deep. Most of our religious programming and school programming have negative limiting beliefs. It all teaches us we’re not enough in a way. In watching the film – and I think we pulled it off – there is that fine line. Some people will have a tendency to say “Oh My God, I DID ALL THIS”. But no, it is an opportunity to realize – just like when I was a kid and my mom gave me the book “Power of Your Subconscious Mind”. You can say, “ if I created this because of my programming then I can change the programming,. I can allow something greater to come true”. I think that is very important.
Translating that into forgiveness… That is why we included in the film the story of the young girl that was raped by the KKK members led by her father. That was in there for a very specific reason. It is a classic example of someone with a very hard experience in life. One of the hardest things to recover from and doctors will tell you — is multiple personality disorder. Here there is an example that within seven days all of those personalities coalesced into one and a healing occurred. If she could forgive that… what can we forgive? Forgiveness of course doesn’t mean “I love you and thank you for using me as a doormat” and is making it okay. It doesn’t make it okay. But forgiveness also involves on some core level “What if?” I was a participant in that situation where I saw myself a victim? What if I created this experience as a catalyst to really change? This is a beautiful example for people wanting to change something in your life but they meet resistance and struggle keeps bubbling up. They think they are not enough and don’t deserve it. They can’t manifest what they want. The tendency especially in the Western world is to almost disregard that and shove it down and to keep focusing on that and what you want. The resistance needs to be allowed to come up and to be looked at. And a lot of times it is past anger or sadness. If you embrace that and allow it — the resistance disappears and when the resistance is gone you can manifest very easily what we want. You can say “I came into this life and mastered this circumstance and what is on the other side of it?”. What is on the side of it is where everyone wants to be. Instead of wishing it wasn’t there you embrace it and then change happens very quickly.
Jenny: I love the way you put that. I feel a lot of people do think of forgiveness in a limited sense. They think of it like I have to go up to my sexual abuser and say “I forgive you” and that is not it. It is really making peace with it inside yourself and deciding that it won’t hold you back anymore. It might have contributed to who you are at that point but maybe it was there to make you stronger. Forgiveness is realizing you need to move forward from it.
James: With acceptance — A lot of people tend to think acceptance means you have to put up with something that you don’t really like or feel good about it. No, not at all. You can accept something without having it be your preference, without enjoying it, and you can say, “this is going on right now, I accept that it is going on, it is something I would like to change but I am accepting it is going on right now“. When you do that the resistance starts to dissipate and you can attract real change in your life. I do feel that everything is an opportunity for healing – not physical healing but your healing life circumstances – your emotional body. Neale Donald Walsch sent out an email saying he was taking time for himself right now because he has a health opportunity. I thought, “isn’t that great” most people would say a health crisis or sickness and he said “I have a health opportunity”.
Jenny: Wow, that is great. Brandon Bays from your movie is an amazing example of that. She took it as an opportunity and healed herself of a basketball sized tumor in record time. I think your movie is so important for pointing out those stories we don’t hear every day…..
Stay Tuned for Part II and PLEASE leave comments and questions. Hi Jenny,
You did an awesome job with the interview!! I can’t wait to see part 2!
What kept jumping out at me – even more so here – than in the clips you featured earlier – is the whole and real concept of “what if” — and really what that can mean. What it can mean if we not only say that, but really mean in as well. If the “what if” is coming from deep within. It really becomes such a powerful question!
And I loved the whole section on “good news” – I have really been avoiding the news for the reason that it would always seem to be bad news being reported. And I would leave from that feeling dragged down. Good news stories, these are the things that really uplift! And that is good news indeed!
Jenny, thank you, very much for doing this interview – and for getting some wonderful dialogue with James Sinclair. There is so much wisdom here…
Lances last blog post..As Real As It Gets
Hi Lance,
Thanks so much for all your nice words! I was a bit nervous going in but James is so relaxed and real that it couldn’t last long.
Yes, “What If?” is a VERY powerful phrase and I am so happy James shed more light on that. You have a great point in that we have to MEAN it and truly be willing to question our deepest beliefs.
Amazing the thought of good news isn’t it? It almost seems basic – show bad stuff all day dis-empower people, show some good stuff and that positive things happen every day and EMPOWER people… I hope this gets clearer in the media. Yes, they also have to show what is going on and conflicts that occur but for everything like that going on — there are people doing good and trying to help others. I feel a more even approach would work wonders for the morale of this country.
James is so wise and I was very honored to talk with him. His movie is an important one for our time and resonates so deeply with me and my own journey.
Thanks again Lance, your comments and visits always make me smile and get me thinking! Part 2 will be up next week!
Love,
Jenny
I have not watched the movie but I sure like the sound of “What if”. I welcome every opportunity to explore beyond the limits of my conscious awareness. Thanks for introducing it to me!
I’ve also read Robin’s reviews about the show. I’m convinced that I will want to watch it one day soon.
Jenny, you’ve done a wonderful job with interviewing James Sinclair. Will it be Dr Bruce Lipton next? He was in Singapore for a workshop a couple of years ago. We bought his awesome DVD on The Biology of Belief thereafter!

What an incredible interview Jenny, I can’t wait to see “What If” now. I relate so much to your discussion regarding the need for more “positive” news that uplifts, inspires and motivates people. I too believe this creates an empowering vibration that in turn with attract more good and so the positive cycle will grow ever stronger. Thank you so much for sharing this with us!
Hi Evelyn,
I know you’d enjoy What If? — definitely touches on things that we both write and are passionate about.
Thank you for the compliment on the interview. It helped James was so nice and the topic is something I could talk about all day!
I LOVE Dr. Lipton’s work and would welcome the opportunity to interview him! I just watched a lecture series of his and was absolutely blown away. He was a wonderful part of “What If?” and is also in another new one coming out that has Dr. Eric Pearl in it… All these movies to empower and raise consciousness are SO inspiring. I really feel so fortunate to be alive in this era!
Thanks Evelyn, always lovely to hear from you!
Love, xo,

Hi Adam,
Thank YOU! I feel most could get A LOT out of What If? and am so happy you want to see it!
It is so wonderful to see the small shift in news and I look forward to watching that snowball! I wasn’t aware station were doing it until I talked to James and was SO happy to hear it!
Thanks Adam for taking the time to comment! Greatly appreciated and let me know how you like the movie!
Gratefully,
Jenny
Powerful – thank you both!
I love this. ‘every time we question “what if?” we actually begin to create new neuro-pathways in the brain. We can change just by questioning “What If?”
Also the acceptance quote is outstanding!
Hey Tom,
I am so happy you enjoyed the interview! James is an amazingly inspiring person. I thoroughly enjoyed talking with him.
Yes, seems crazy that something SO simple can change the way we see things! But as I have found in my studies – it is usually the simpler things that have the MOST profound effect of my life. Over thinking or analyzing has never done me any service… I am trusting my intuition more and things are moving along MUCH better because of it. I am open to any “What If?” question imaginable because the experiences I have had in the last year were unfathomable to me 2 years ago. “Miracles” happen every day and I say “Bring ‘em on!”
Thanks again for your wonderful class. Another example of one of the more simpler things having a profound effect on me. Just adding “Until now” to my self limiting thoughts has changed the way I have been seeing everything.
Acceptance is a “stuck point” for many. James shed wonderful light on it with his quote.
Thanks again Tom, for your class, your important blog and work, your comments and for being you!
Love,
Jenny

Hi Jenny!
Excellent work with this interview – it was both fascinating and a pleasure to read, especially having seen the movie!
Big congrats too go out to James for puting together a movie for our times – that causes deeper questioning and growth!
It is amazing where we can go, when we start asking “what if?”
Evitas last blog post..Book Review: Walking Through Walls
Hi Evita,
Thank you! I enjoyed talking with James so much and could ask him endless questions!
I agree that he deserves a HUGE Congratulations for putting together such an important movie. This definitely allows for evolving consciousness which I know is a topic of interest for you at Evolving Beings!
So happy you saw this Evita and yes it is QUITE amazing what can happen when we ask that question, “What If?”.
Always a pleasure to have you comment — thank you!

Hi Jenny
Great interview! I especially like the way James talks about victims and forgiveness – not many people are brave enough to say it. I’ve been meaning to do a post about forgiveness, but haven’t got around to it.
I still haven’t seen the movie! We have just been at a festival for a week, and the DVD arrived just before we left – now we are having a major heat wave for 5 days (109F tomorrow – 104 as i write this at 1 p.m.), and our TV is in the hottest room of the house (we don’t usually watch TV). Frank and I are concentrating on manifesting insulation and air conditioning (sorry about this rambling comment – I’m a bit delirious, I think).
Thanks so much for the mention, Jenny – R
Robins last blog post..Guy Finlay Followed By An Illustrated Meme.
Hi Robin,
Forgiveness is so major for many. Forgiveness of others AND self forgiveness. My hardest struggle was forgiveness of myself for being sick for so long. It took a lot of “work” to get past that one. But, I realized that I would not have “heard” this message earlier on in my illness. Being sick for 6 years and healing myself was such a gift because it has me where I am now – helping others and spreading the word about natural modalities of healing.
I don’t know too many that have had the “perfect” childhood. Many of us have “battle wounds” but it is what you do with that and if you grow and learn from them that determines your future. Oprah Winfrey was sexually abused at a young age and came from poverty — if she had given up or gotten “stuck” in that blame space she would probably not be where she is today.
Wow — I’m impressed you can even string sentences together with that heat!
It is minus something here with a foot of snow coming tonight. ANOTHER snow day for my kids tomorrow.
Hmmm 107 or below zero….. hard one!
Cool that you go to so many festivals – they sound like a lot of fun. Stay cool and I know you’ll enjoy “What If?” when you see it.
Thanks for commenting Robin! Always a pleasure to hear from you.
Love,
Jenny

James is indeed a beautiful person and it shines through when you speak with him! I wish you tremendous success for What If and am grateful I have been able to promote it. This movie can help MANY begin to awaken and I am all for being a catalyst for higher consciousness and empowerment. Thank you so much for commenting. All the best!

What an amazing interview – after this I’m going straight to part II!! I know both Mercedes (my best friend in the world!) and James (amazing guy!) and think their movie is incredible and I am so proud of both of them. I am so thrilled the movie is recieving the well deserved rave reviews and above that the wordly attention it should have. I can’t even express all the positive emotions the movie and interviews like this make me feel. I feel hope for humanity and as cliche as it sounds – awakened. I espically like the bit about the news and all the negativity it pools withhin us. Merc and I have had many conversation about not watching news as it makes you feel horrible and depressed and then guilty for “turning a cheek” – we’re both news junkies! If there was a section of news that focused on the positives, hopefully the balance would make a difference …anyway wanted to leave my two cents. “What If” is an amazing movie and is changing my life. Can’t say thanks BFF and James (and Jenny – you sound amazing too!)
Inspired,
Ashley

So not a writer, haha….Last sentace should read:
Can’t say thanks enough..
Hi Ashley,
Welcome and I am so happy you enjoyed the interview. Yes, everyone associated with the movie is so inspiring! It does give a lot of hope!
I am thrilled with the attention it is receiving as well – it really is the prefect time for it!
I have a few news junkies in my life as well…. all I can say is try and cut back and see what it does… read happynews.com Stick with headlines or 5 minutes so you feel informed but before you get overwhelmed. I would be so excited to see the news shift as well. I love the idea of sitting down and catching up on what is happening all over the world but would be much more inspired to do so if the good news was just as prevalent as all the bad news they dish out. It’s out there – miracles happen every day…..
Thanks so much Ashley for introducing yourself and leaving your thoughtful comments! I have also been so moved by this film!
Gratefully,
Jenny
