Sim games have been around for quite a while now. From the Sim People, to Sim Pets to Sim City’s there is no shortage of designing your own — well anything. Whatever part of the world you feel you want to design….you choose what parts you have fun constructing. I started years ago with the original “The Sims”. It was amazing to me how you could design a house, the people, the careers, the family, the town…. Truly a way to lose some hours and then just sit back and watch your new world unfold…..
For the teens through adults there are: The Sims Complete Collection which includes:
- The Sims — the phenomenon that started it all! Completely build and customize your Sims’ homes, decide their career paths and romances, and choose from hundreds of items to keep them happy. Their lives are in your hands.
- The Sims – Livin’ Large gives your Sims the wild life! A wider range of objects and styles allows even the most timid Sim to cut loose and live it up.
- The Sims – House Party lets you throw the ultimate theme party. Engage in new group activities, and rock the house with different music and dance styles.
- In The Sims – Vacation you’ll choose whether your Sims will spend the weekend at a beach resort, rough it in the woods, or chill out in a winter wonderland.
- The Sims – Hot Date takes you from candlelit romance to cuddling on the couch. Let your Sims enjoy downtown delights as their relationships heat up.
Or there are the Sim City games which are now on their 4th Installment: Sim City 4 Deluxe where you can:
- Create, build and run the most realistic city you can imagine
- Connect your metropolis with other cities you’ve created to form a massive region of SimCities
- Sculpt mountains, gouge valleys, and seed forests
- Deploy police cruisers and fire trucks to the scene
There is the new SimSociety Game due for release November 13 which looks incredible. There is lots to do:
- Innovative, modular approach to city-building – choose from more than 350 unique buildings which can be combined, connected and re-arranged in almost limitless combinations.
- Make an artistic city, an industrial one, a police state ?.or anything you want
- A new system in SimCity Societies picks up on cultural cues and adjusts lighting, music and the appearance of your city on-the-fly!
- As your city evolves, you’ll be able to unlock new buildings to help advance your society
- Share your own unique cities with your friends online
Now for the younger kids there are Sim Games as well so they can enjoy and work their brains as they create their own environment and people. This game is rated E for everyone although I think ages 7+ is more realistic. Nintendo has come out with:
My Sims for the Nintendo Wii where kids can:
- Build and Customize an Entire Town-Your town is your own unique creation, from the flower shop to the mad scientist’s laboratory and beyond.
- Shape the Community-It’s your call who lives there and who moves out! Who will you befriend? Who will you ignore?
- Get to Know Your Town-Socialize with the locals and uncover all sorts of useful or surprising treasures hidden throughout the town.
- Create Your Own Sim-It’s a cinch to personalize your Sim’s appearance from head to toe with the Wii and DS controls. Unlock cool new clothing and accessories as you befriend the neighbors.
- Design Your Own Stuff-Decorate with your very own furniture and accessories, then customize your creations with things you can grow, harvest, or discover around town.
And My Sims for the DS where you can: Explore a whole new world —it’s your world to transform! Move to a town that has been struggling lately. With a little creativity and some help from the locals, you can make this place thrive. Improve the town to attract new characters, from the Italian Chef and Florist to the Kickboxing Instructor and DJ. Discover what the residents want and need so that you can help them enjoy life in their town. Design a hot tub or a jukebox from scratch, build homes and businesses from the roof to the front door. Uncover special decorations and patterns as you explore the growing town. From the furniture and objects to the buildings to the town as a whole, each of your creations is unique. In MySims, what you make … makes all the difference! Special Nintendo DS Feature: A Whole World to Explore—Move to a resort town and discover areas like the mountain, forest, port, entertainment district, and more. Unlock more of the world as new characters visit and move in. You can also create your own original patterns to make inspired clothing and furniture items.
Will Wright the creator of the Sim Games is nothing short of a visionary and genius. Watch the below video as he talks of his new game Spore that is due for release March 8, 2008….. I can’t wait for this one to come out! Spore looks truly amazing and will surely be another huge success for a much deserving Will Wright. As of now the rating is pending. He truly believes in educating through games and I can’t wait to see what he comes up with next!
