My Holiday Recommendations for Kids Computer Games

Gifts (Over $100)

Ok — so if you read my blog you know I am a Nintendo addict. So my top suggestions have to be to check out my posts on the Nintendo Wii and the Nintendo DS. Those are expensive gifts but they provide TONS of entertainment. We got the Wii last Christmas and I have to say it is the most used gift we have ever received. My kids use their Ds’s a lot. It is a life saver if you need to wait in a doctor’s office or for a long car ride. They also love sending messages to each other from different parts of the house. Wii and Ds Games run between $20 - $50 depending on when they were released.

Gifts (Under $25 )

Internet on my Wii — yet ANOTHER reason to get one!

I have talked about my love of Nintendo. Even though they aren’t technically computer games they will always make their way into posts of mine since I have been a fan for so long.

I knew that the Nintendo Wii besides being a remarkable gaming system had internet capabilities Since it uses the operating system Opera I was unsure of exactly what you could do. Well about 2 weeks ago my son helped me figure it out. We have been playing lots of music videos of songs my kids hear on the radio through youtube on my PC. I love the other internet video stations like launch but when you are dealing with 2 impatient kids — no commercials is a good thing! So I said “let’s check out the internet on the Wii” and my son said “hey, I wonder if you can…

WORD SANDWICH & No Brainer — 2 FREE online games

My husband and I have been playing this online word game for the last couple of years called Word Sandwich. It’s premise is an easy one — guess the target word (the word in the middle). You enter in a word and narrow it down alphabetically. If you enter a word that is before the word in the alphabet it goes above, if it goes after it is below. Keep narrowing it down until you guess. The longer you take and the number of guesses decrease your score. Most importantly if you keep the guesses coming fast it keeps the multiplier at 4x/score which helps the overall score. 5 words make up your total score. FUN, EDUCATIONAL and ADDICTING! Ages 8 and up to really be able to play well but it’d be fun to show younger ones how it…

You Don’t Know Jack

Wow — just typing the title brings back so many memories of playing these games. When my husband and I started playing them they were PC games and we had so many laughs. You can play many of them 1-3 players and they are trivia games with several twists. They do insult you, make fun of everything and have mature themes. There are several different versions of You Don’t Know Jack Games from Movies and TV to just general trivia. All are funny and as they are older you will want to make sure they will work on your PC. You can buy them for next to nothing now and they are priceless.

A few months back my husband and I discovered You Don’t Know Jack had an online site. You can only play as one player but they have tons of…

Big FIsh Games & Mysterious Case Files: Ravenhurst

I recommend checking out BIGFISHGAMES for lots of different game options. They have them broken down by category so it’s easy to find the kid friendly ones. They offer a free download for one hour to try out MOST of these games and when the trial runs out you have to either uninstall the game or log on to buy the full version. This is great if you aren’t sure about purchasing and want to make sure your child likes the game before paying money for it.

One game I’d recommend to try the free trial for is Mysterious case Files:Ravenhurst. It is a find the objects game and in doing so you put together diary pages for clues. It says for ages 10 and up and maybe somewhere later there is scariness or something that warrants it. I played it…
