I have talked about my love of Nintendo. Even though they aren’t technically computer games they will always make their way into posts of mine since I have been a fan for so long.

I knew that the Nintendo Wii besides being a remarkable gaming system had internet capabilities Since it uses the operating system Opera I was unsure of exactly what you could do. Well about 2 weeks ago my son helped me figure it out. We have been playing lots of music videos of songs my kids hear on the radio through youtube on my PC. I love the other internet video stations like launch but when you are dealing with 2 impatient kids — no commercials is a good thing! So I said “let’s check out the internet on the Wii” and my son said “hey, I wonder if you can watch youtube videos on there”. Wow — I thought with our big screen TV I can’t even imagine….. Well it worked. We have access to the millions of videos on youtube through the Nintendo Wii. Now this only work if you have the internet set up in your house and wirelessly makes for a painless setup. We also discovered that the kids could play Club Penguin (which I have reviewed) through the Wii on the big screen. So far Opera does not use Flash so sites like Nick Jr. and a bunch of others won’t work. But I am sure that is something Nintendo is working on being as innovative as they are.

So Yes, just ANOTHER quick plug for if you are debating getting a Wii from Santa this year or not. I have never seen such an innovative gaming system. Our whole family has gotten so much use out of this over the last year (it was what my husband and I asked for from my mom last year). From games that work your brain, to get off your couch and exercise games, to the old time games that you download from the internet, to the internet itself — the Wii surpasses any expectations I would have had for a gaming system in 2007!

I taught kids through computer games for many years in NYC. There are many educational games that are FUN as well. There is no need for your child to play games with violence. I only recommend quality and safe games and sites here.
