I get so excited when I find out about new children’s gaming sites popping up. This next one is no exception and it really is groundbreaking in the way it is designed. “Be tween talk” offers a forum platform as well as games, quizzes, blogs and a Role Playing Game for kids in that “Tween Age” (9-12). I signed my son up and I feel he is old enough but with a lot of reading required I think that would be the youngest I would recommend it for (He’s age 8). Although I know my daughter who is almost 5 saw my son playing games on it last night and asked if she could try some.
The environment has a very safe feel. Your child needs to sign up using an adult email address so an adult can approve the membership. No one over 13 is allowed. The site is policed and has strict guidelines on what you are allowed to post. The forums offer great topics for kids to discuss such as favorite games, entertainment such as movies and books, jokes and then just kids talking to each other to get to exchange stories and befriend each other. It has the feel of an older site while maintaining the innocence of it being for kids.
Onto the games….. Wow are there a lot! My son posted a comment asking for some suggestions and that’s where we started. We liked a number of the Yeti Sports games, Reindeer Training School, Funny Bubbles, Braniac, a few of the Mario games and my son’s 2 favorites were Gold Miner and Mario CapeGlide. I cannot give direct links to these games since you do need to be a member to play but with 256 games I know you’d find something your kids will enjoy! The kids can enter their names with the scores and even comment and win trophies if they are in the top 3.
There is a RPG (role playing game) as well. My son is not into these and I attempted to check it out but did not get too far. These games usually include some battles and I cannot attest to the violence or non-violence in them. You need to make 3 posts before you are allowed to play and I think this is aimed at the 10-12 year olds. I’d love feedback from someone after they do check it out…
There is also a blog section where kids can comment or maintain a blog as well as quizzes for the kids to take.
I REALLY enjoy In Be Tween and the fact that it is a new way to set up a kid’s site. Very age specific, very safe and with a lot of options of ways to have fun and meet other kids. Lots of fun to be had and it seemed to help with my son’s reading and typing as well — which never hurts! ; )
