Nintendo World — A COOL Place and Magic Pen — an AWESOME free online Game

NINTENDO WORLD STORE A few weekends ago my family and I went to NYC which is where I grew up. My son is a die hard Pokemon fan and after exploring The Central Park Zoo we went to FAO Schwartz in hopes of finding him cool Pokemon Stuff (My mom loves to buy them treats when they come into the city since it is so rare). We were very surprised when FAO Schwartz (the end all-be all of toy stores) said they did not stock Pokemon stuff but their reasoning was “With the huge Toys R Us in Times Square having some of it and Nintendo World having such a HUGE selection — it just doesn’t make sense”. So we knew the next day would include a trip to Nintendo World in Rockefeller Center.
Wow! I don’t know who was more impressed, my husband, myself, our 8 year old son or our 5 year old daughter. We all looked around in amazement at the 8 Nintendo DS’s plugged in and working around a table with 8 chairs around it. We gaped at the HUMONGOUS Pokemon section with more Pokemon things than any of us had ever seen. We were in shock to see MANY Nintendo Wii’s hooked up to big flat screen TV’s so you could try the various games. That was JUST the ground floor! When we went upstairs there were tons more Wii’s set up some with even BIGGER screened TV’s. There was a museum like case with all the old Nintendo game consoles (I think I had almost all of them at one point). There were all the accessories you could ever want. There were souvenirs galore from T-Shirts, mugs and my daughter’s favorite — stuffed animals of the characters. My daughter ran to a Luigi and now 2 weeks later has not let him leave her sight.

The staff was helpful. The prices were some of the most reasonable I have found for Nintendo products. There were surprisingly more than enough games set up at the consoles so that everyone could play and the only lines seemed to be at check out. If you read my blog frequently you know I am a HUGE Nintendo fan and visiting Nintendo World only made me more of one. There are a few new releases I am VERY excited for including Wii Fit which comes with a fitness board and tons of exercises and games so you can use your Wii to stay in shape. From hula hooping to yoga poses to push ups — Wii Fit promises not to disappoint — check out the video below for a preview! Wii Fit comes out on May 21 and they are already anticipating shortages so I would suggest ordering now if you want one. There is also Mario Kart for the Wii that was just released. Mario Kart has been a classic through many of the Nintendo Game consoles and the Wii version looks like the best one yet. It offers many different vehicles and a steering wheel to insert your Wii Remote into so you really feel like you are driving!

If you are in NYC I highly recommend checking out Nintendo World. You can go and just play games for a while or you can buy anything under the sun that they have put out. If you have a Pokemon or Nintendo fan in your family — this is the place to be!

Magic Pen — a wonderfully creative online game by Alejandro Guillen

It is difficult for me to say WHAT exact ages Magic Pen is for. My 8 year old son LOVED it and my 5 year old daughter was mesmerized watching and trying to help us figure out what would work but I think it was a bit above her to actually control herself. I would say ages 8 – adult would LOVE this game. The premise…. get the ball to hit the flag (or collect them as it gets more difficult). How do you do that? Simple — by using Physics. You DRAW (with your mouse as the Magic Pen) objects and shapes to make that happen. It starts out simple with ways to create a circle and triangle to make a bigger circle run off a ramp (triangle you drew) to hit the ball and propel it into the flag. BOY does it get more difficult as you go on though.

The technology in this game blew me away. How you are able to draw shapes and make them interact the way you do is nothing short of amazing to me. As you advance you can add hinges to make other shapes swing around. It is a very forgiving game and doesn’t make you start the level all over for a little mistake but will replace the ball where it was last. That and the ability to erase shapes that are not working out as you thought they would make this even more addicting and have you thinking “I WILL figure this out”. My son and I made it to level 8 and in doing research on this game I just found out it has 26 levels. Please visit freegamesnews.com for another review and to also get a link for a complete walkthrough. There are also numerous videos on youtube to walk you through if you get stuck.

Magic Pen is found on a few sites many other games and advertisements so I do not recommend just leaving your child with it unless you are confident they won’t click onto something else. It is a fun one to play with your kids and I can also see many adults getting hooked on this one!
