Play First has many different types of games from online, to Mac, games for your mobile phone, action games, puzzle games, strategy games, card and word games. While there are definitely MANY games appropriate and fun for the younger than 12 age group — since there is purchasing and downloading involved and they don’t have a specific “kids area” I would make sure I was around and supervising before any child younger played. Play First offers many games to try for an hour free download which is a GREAT way to figure out BEFORE you spend money if the game will hold your child’s or your own interest for long.
Play First has voluminous games so I would not be able to give recommendations in every category. I noticed they have TWO of my all time favorite Arcade Games available online that I haven’t yet mentioned on my site: “Zuma” which you can play online or purchase. This was the first game since my old teen-aged Tetris days that I had found that I loved as much in the puzzle/strategy genre. The music is wonderful and you shoot colored balls at like colored balls before they reach the end of the pattern they are going in. Clear all the balls and you move onto the next level… sounds simple, right? This is one I recommend highly to try and you might wind up buying it because once you finish the levels offered online you will WANT to keep playing! The other online puzzle game that I highly recommend is CUBIS…another one with seemingly simple instructions…. match 3 cubes of the same color and clear the screen of cubes to move onto the next level…. This is definitely a game of strategy and another one you might want to buy after completing the levels available online…
There are other arcade games that fall into different categories. The games Cake Mania, Spongebob’s Diner Dash and Dress Shop Hop along with many others all are great games for learning ordering and for logical thinking. These are all appropriate for all ages and I was very surprised to see my 5 year old daughter LOVING Cake Mania. With all these games you have to do things in a certain order to take care of the customer and make money. For example in Cake Mania, you need to take the customer’s order to find out WHAT shape cake they want, press the right button on the oven to bake the right cake, ice the cake with the right color icing, deliver the cake to the customer and then collect the money. Easy when there is one customer waiting but when there are 2 and 3 you and there is a time frame you have to deliver cakes to them for them not to walk out angry — it can get hectic and you have to figure out what you can do to make the best use of your time…. Fun games and they all have similar ideas.
Then there are the find the object games much like the Mystery Case Files Ravenhearst games which I have reviewed before and which they have plenty of on Play First. They also have one called Mystery of Shark Island which was a fun twist on it. These games are great for working on your children’s recognition skills and are pretty addicting as well. You can also play these online before downloading or buying them.
There are also games in the Virtual Villager genre which is similar to the Sims. Keep the Villagers happy and watch them thrive.
BookWorm Deluxe — Link to make words — similar theme as boggle with twists!
Flip Words — similar to Wheel of Fortune or hangman — solve the phrase…..
Super Text Twist — Unscramble the letters to make as many words as possible.
Word Jong – combines Mah Jong with word building which makes for a fun word game.
All of these are wonderful for people that enjoy word games – kids and adults alike.
Other worthy mentions:
Granny in Paradise where you help granny save cats and get them safely home…. reminiscent of the old classic Loderunner where you have to dig holes to get to some spots and climb lots of ladders — this is a fun game and makes you want to play a few levels to see just how insanely hard the boards become.
Bejeweled — Classic game on many sites where you swap gems to get 3 adjacent — very fun and I know many people who got addicted to this one!
Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader? A lot of people LOVE this TV show and this game is a replica that you get to play from home.
Play First Games is a VOLUMINOUS site…. I could have spent a month playing games on this site all day (now THAT would be the life!) and not gotten to all of them. They offer quite a selection of different genres and with their option of playing online, downloading a demo or buying them for the full and extended versions — there are a TON of reasons to check out this excellent gaming site and sign up for your free membership. It is also a great place to go if you want to buy a game for a family member and want to ensure they like it before you spend the money. It’s discovering sites like Play First Games that makes this fun and wishing retirement was closer so I could spend more time exploring the site! If you spend some time there is no doubt you will find a game for EVERYONE in your family — even the little ones….
