Baby/Toddler

Baby games are fascinating in that children can learn the effect of moving a mouse or hitting the keyboard. Some toddlers are able to entertain themselves with these games, but don’t go too far away! You never know when they will need or want some help!

  1. Great site Jenny! I recently started playing a lot of great educational games online with my grandson who is 2 and a half!

He sees me online and also wants to “try it” he knows how to maneuver the mouse, he knows to scroll up and down, knows icons like Firefox, Youtube, knows Google, and we have his own youtube account to save his favorite videos about trains, and plains…

the hand eye coordination, his memory and knowing the proper terminology as in “scroll down” scroll up and where and when to hit the back button absolutely blows me away…

kids now grow up with a whole new range of learning and communicating tools, the vocabulary is new, which to us seems at times, amazing! However all of this is perfectly normal…as it was normal for us to play with the fisher price rotary phone and know how to “dial” numbers came naturally to us as well just from having seeing people do it…

so all of this is really cool, not abnormal, for a 2 year old to know a lot of this stuff…that we (as in I) are just beginning to learn…lol

It is admirable what you have created here, a place for non violent games etc. suggestions,,,

if I could recommend a great site with a forum etc. it would be Treehouse…learning sign language, spanish, french, and so much more is all over that site…

You are correct though that often kids still need our help and supervision in this learning, as well as teaching children respect for the computer as a tool not a toy, and helping them rather than using it as a babysitter…

You are putting out some awesome content on the web Jen and I just wanted to say a big thank you for that!

All the very best to you!

    Karin

p.s. long post but I could write to you, and your viewers on this subject and on children all day… it is yet another one of my big passions…

child rearing and being around these incredible smart, fun little beings…who teach US, more than we know! ;)

  2. Hi Karin,
Thanks so much for the wonderful comment. I also appreciate the site recommendation and will go check it out. Yes, kids are amazing! We can all learn a lot from them. My children were on the computer on my lap before they could sit by themselves learning the alphabet with fun music and silly graphics. As you said as long as you do not use it as a babysitter and play WITH them it could be beneficial to BOTH of you. Thanks for your kind words Karin. I feel very lucky to be blogging about 2 of my passions; healing and kid’s games! Thank you for your encouragement.
    Love,
    Jenny
