Moshi Monsters – Educational Computer Games and More for Kids

moshi start screenMoshi Monsters takes a very different spin on kid’s computer games and the recent inundation of interactive social networking sites for children. The games are educational and the environment silly, entertaining, safe and fun at the same time.  For parents, they have a thorough description of their site and their commitment to education and safety of children on their site. This is a QUALITY networking site for children to play games and learn.  As you might have guessed by the name – it is about monsters… but not scary ones – very cute ones that you adopt when you join.  There are free and paid membership options and my children have been very pleased with all you ARE allowed to do with the free membership. You need permission from a parent to join — another way they

WhizzBall at Discovery Kids – A Kids Computer Game to Make them Think

whizzballmenuIt has been ages since I reviewed any of the FREE wonderful Kid’s computer games at Discovery Kids! Their site is voluminous and offers many educational games for all ages.  I had recommended Discovery Kids for Pre-schoolers but in the last two years it has become so much more.  Whizz Ball is a prime example of a superb thinking game with a similar feel of one of my all time favorites, “The Incredible Machine“.

Whizz Ball comes with many options and for the beginner and children under 10 — I highly recommend clicking on the “How To Play” and watching the tutorial.  My son who is 10 took quickly to this game and began with “Build Your Own Puzzle”.  This is also a good way (especially for older

Tropix- Fun, Educational Kids Computer Game Ages 6 on up

tropixAlthough Tropix says it for ages 10 and up I feel any child that can read would have an amazing time with it.  Tropix is a game with many mini games, goals and beautiful graphics.  My 6 year old daughter has not been THIS fond of a game in a LONG time and my 9 year old son enjoys it as well.  This game is available for the PC, for The Nintendo DS or online through Shockwave.

In Tropix your character is a monkey.  You begin on one island where you need to buy food as well as items for comfort and fun.  You get sand dollars by playing games. When you have filled your food, fun and comfort to their…

Auditorium — A Beautiful Online Thinking Game with Music

auditorium3Auditorium is MUCH more than a kid’s computer game.  It is a game adults will love as well.  It is good for all ages and the music and graphics are simple gorgeous.  It is no wonder this game has won so many awards and I consider it a gift to have found it. It has a very zen like feel to it and I was hooked and went back to it a FEW times yesterday.  I also told everyone around me about it.  I have only played nine free levels online and I did not want to stop.  For $10.99 you get over 70 levels of game play spread across 15 acts.

The premise – simple — move the circles so that the energy flow fills the audio containers. As you do you will hear different soothing melodies.  The music…

Mosaic – Tomb of Mystery — Play for free on Playfirst

mosaic-tomb-of-mysteryLargeThe puzzle genre is one of my favorites as far as computer games for kids.  Mosaic – Tomb of Mystery is no exception although it certainly isn’t JUST for children. The graphics and music are beautiful and you are working your brain, your hand-eye coordination and ability to think fast and plan ahead.  Seems like a simple premise….get all the pieces to fit into the image.  But as the pieces continue to fall and you are still debating where and how the last piece will fit – you realize this is more challenging than it may have first appeared.

I love the Play First site because it allows you to do just that. You can play Mosaic – Tomb of Mystery free online and try it as you go through the many levels they…

Zula World – Virtual World filled with Education and Fun for Kids

mainZula World is based on the TV Show The Zula Patrol and creates a new mold of a virtual environment for children online. It begins with a sign up approved by a parent’s email address. Then your child can design an avatar that is an alien and you will get a spaceship to travel in. Like other virtual sites, there are free and paid membership options, games and of course pets… but this has a different look and feel than the other sites I have been to.

Overview

Each location in ZulaWorld has a sign post where you can see what you can do there. There is also your notepad on the bottom of the screen you can check to find out. Your character can walk around from place to place or you can click on the…

If your child enjoys pets and animals the series of Pet Vet and Pet Pals computer games are for you. The games are available on the Nintendo Wii, DS or on the PC/Mac and can really give your child a good idea of what it is like to be a Veterinarian. Here is a brief overlook of each.

petvetwiiPet Pals (Animal Doctor) For Ninento Wii

Zoopz — Fun Kids Computer Game site that works the brain

zoopz-homeI LOVE finding kid’s computer game sites like Zoopz! There are NO ADS, it is FREE, the graphics and music are very cute and with a tagline like: “Games that Make You Think” — it is right up my alley for a review AND to share with my own children. Zoopz has a collection of games that work your creativity and/or logical mind. I feel this site is good for age 5 and up and would be enjoyed by MANY different ages. I HIGHLY recommend visiting Zoopz and following are a few of my favorites from the site:

San Francisco Symphony offers a Great Computer Site for Kids to Learn About Music

sfsymphonyhomeI was so happy to find the San Francisco Symphony site that offers kid’s online games to teach them A LOT about music. There are a few different activities where your child can learn more about reading music, instruments, rhythm, tempo and more.

San Francisco Symphony’s message and purpose is clear from their About Us page:

“We love music and are committed to music education, within our community and beyond. This website, in conjunction with our live performances, provides a great way for people of all ages to hear, learn, and have fun with music.

Consider this site your premier web destination for learning about music — that’s why it’s here! And, if you’d like to share this site with others, send them a postcard.”

I DO like this site and instead of…

Mia and The Bugaboo Bugs — Great Reading Game for Ages 5-9

I have mentioned the “Mia games” before and recommended a reading and a math “Mia game” in my post “Kid’s Educational Computer Games (Ages 3-10)“. Mia and The Bugaboo Bugs is the newest installment from Kutoka Interactive and is appropriate for ages 5-9 and has 4 different levels so you can adjust the skill level for Reading accordingly (It is based on the curriculum for Kindergarten – 3rd grade). Mia is a cute girl mouse that can skateboard and in each game you lead her through an adventure that takes you through some learning games along the way. The Mia games are slow-paced and feel like you are immersed in the story. There is also an option at start up to play the 12 learning activities included instead of playing the whole adventure game…
