Kids Computer Games Recommendations

Although Tropix says it for ages 10 and up I feel any child that can read would have an amazing time with it.  Tropix is a game with many mini games, goals and beautiful graphics.  My 6 year old daughter has not been THIS fond of a game in a LONG time and my 9 year old son enjoys it as well.  This game is available for the PC, for The Nintendo DS or online through Shockwave.

In Tropix your character is a monkey.  You begin on one island where you need to buy food as well as items for comfort and fun.  You get sand dollars by playing games. Auditorium is MUCH more than a kid’s computer game.  It is a game adults will love as well.  It is good for all ages and the music and graphics are simple gorgeous.  It is no wonder this game has won so many awards and I consider it a gift to have found it. It has a very zen like feel to it and I was hooked and went back to it a FEW times yesterday.  I also told everyone around me about it.  I have only played nine free levels online and I did not want to stop.  For $10.99 you get over 70 levels of game play spread across 15 acts.

One of my son’s favorite genre of kids computer games are physics games.  Red Remover was too cute for me not to post.  It will make you think and is appropriate for all ages.  It comes from the site Physics Games and is just one of many.  The site does have ads so I always warn parents to make sure your child is old enough and responsible enough to be on a site with ads before leaving them unattended on the site.  This game is tons of fun and increases in difficulty.  Another plus is if you get very stuck you can even see a walkthrough video of that board so you can advance.  Hope you enjoy!

The puzzle genre is one of my favorites as far as computer games for kids.  Mosaic – Tomb of Mystery is no exception although it certainly isn’t JUST for children. The graphics and music are beautiful and you are working your brain, your hand-eye coordination and ability to think fast and plan ahead.  Seems like a simple premise….get all the pieces to fit into the image.  But as the pieces continue to fall and you are still debating where and how the last piece will fit – you realize this is more challenging than it may have first appeared.

I have mentioned Jay is Games before as one of my favorite places to find out about kids computer games and games for all ages.  Most of their games listed are free flash games and some are downloads.  I wanted to showcase a few of my favorite point and click adventure games (NOT escape the room games) that are fun for the kids or your whole family to play.  The games I am mentioning all have a similar feel, are non violent and have beautiful graphics and sound to add to your experience.  Here are a few of my faves.  Would love to know what you think:

I LOVE finding kid’s computer game sites like Zoopz! There are NO ADS, it is FREE, the graphics and music are very cute and with a tagline like: “Games that Make You Think” — it is right up my alley for a review AND to share with my own children. Zoopz has a collection of games that work your creativity and/or logical mind. I feel this site is good for age 5 and up and would be enjoyed by MANY different ages. I was so happy to find the San Francisco Symphony site that offers kid’s online games to teach them A LOT about music. There are a few different activities where your child can learn more about reading music, instruments, rhythm, tempo and more.

Shape Switcher is a puzzle game easy to get addicted to. Simple enough to amuse kids and interesting enough to make adults want to finish all 13 levels. You have to figure out which shape or color you need to be to make it through the stage and reach the star.
