I met Slade at the very beginning of my spiritual journey right after healing myself physically over ten years ago. I was researching spiritual writers and bloggers and when I found “Shift Your Spirits” – it felt like home. Slade’s writing and voice drew me in and I remember contacting him because I had become an instant fan of his words. I was just dipping my feet into the spiritual world and Slade had the ability to ground that for me so it didn’t feel too “woo-woo” but make sense giving me a deep sense of comfort. I took Slade’s Automatic Writing Class which offered me a deeper connection to my own intuition. I also fell in love with his free meditation offered to subscribers “Contacting Your Spirit Guides”. Slade leads you on a journey with his beautiful imagery and it is still one of the number one guided meditations I recommend to my own clients (and yes, still listen to myself). Slade and I have kept in touch over the years and it has been heart warming to witness him release published books and see his voice reach even more people. Besides all of these accomplishments and his gift of writing, I have just always felt Slade is one cool guy. He is sweet, authentic, not afraid to speak his truth and is aligned with his work whether it be giving intuitive readings, teaching classes or writing his next book or article. It is my great pleasure and honor to introduce you to a friend, teacher, and all around amazing person who is definitely Aligned and Inspired – Slade Roberson.
AIM Spotlight for Slade Roberson
BIO: Slade Roberson is a professional intuitive and author of the blog Shift Your Spirits, where he writes about personal development with fewer hearts and flowers than most New Age blather.
1) Please tell us a quote that you aim to live by- whether it be your own or from someone else that has inspired you.
Well, I have two quotes, which work together. (And kinda make a third.)
“Aberrations are as much a part of nature as grace.” —Toni Morrison, Sula
“You are eminently worthy; all things pass.” —Eric Ganther, The Cosmic Tribe Tarot
It’s easy for us to think of personal development and spiritual growth as some form of “striving to be perfect.” Ultimately, these tools of self-empowerment allow us to handle being imperfect.
There’s a message that shows up over and over in my posts on Shift Your Spirits:
“You are already everything you’ve ever wanted to become. You fulfill your life purpose with every breath you take. You’re not missing anything. You have everything you require in this moment to proceed to the next step.”
It’s a manifesto for misfits.
Maybe it’s pretentious to come across as quoting myself — but I received that message first, at major turning point in my life. I feel called to broadcast it to others.
2) Tell us about a moment when one of your greatest shifts occurred in your life or in one of your clients’ lives.
The milestone I just referred to, when speaking about this message, “You are already everything you’ve ever wanted to become…” came to me at an extreme low point in my life in 2003.
I had just been laid off two jobs in quick succession. I’d never involuntarily lost a job in my life, and this one had been — on paper — my “dream job” as a student advisor in a counseling center at a university. But it shocked me by turning into a nightmare, and the stress of it all triggered an aneurysm.
You know that sarcastic joke people say, “Don’t give yourself an aneurysm”? Well, I did.
I had an aneurysm at the age of 34. (It could have been a stroke; the technical distinction between the two terms has always confused me.)
I was partially paralyzed for months on the left side of my body — face, mouth, upper arm. My eyelid no longer blinked, I had to wear an eye patch. And worst of all, my speech was slurred when I spoke, as if I were drunk.
It was devastating. I was relieved to lose my job and not have to leave the house anymore. I became a bit of a shut-in for the next two years. I was in no position to do anything but retreat.
But a part of me was so angry that I could have the rug pulled out from under me like that. I vowed to never be in that position again.
Long story short, my best option was to try the one thing I’d always hoped to do “someday” — becoming an author. In particular, writing about my paranormal experiences, and coming out to the world about my belief that I have spirit guides around me.
With nothing to lose, I surrendered. Why not? I engaged the guides, the voices I was hearing, and my long-demoted creativity and I said, “Okay. What do you want me to do?”
I was told to share my experiences and my message with as many people as possible, and to teach them how to use their intuition.
And I heard the name “Shift Your Spirits.”
I started a blog. Hundreds, and then thousands of people found it. And you, Jenny Mannion, were one of them!
3) Please let us know and describe one to three things that you are passionate about in what you do – (for work or for play or both)
I am passionate about words and stories.
I love to read novels — I have a second career writing fiction as Eric Slade.
I love information technology.
I believe words heal; information is power. Human beings have built a quasi-ethereal dimension — the world wide web — how sci fi is that?!
I believe creativity and spirituality are the same thing for a lot of us.
I believe writers and storytellers are teachers and healers.
I am passionate about helping other creative people turn who they already are into what they do in the world.
I am a professional enabler, in the best sense of the word. Tell me what you want to do, I will cheer lead the hell out of you!
4) If you could give one piece of advice, one action to take, or one tool to empower people right now what would that be?
You are already everything you’ve ever wanted to become. You fulfill your life purpose with every breath you take. You have everything you need, in this moment, to take the next step.
Don’t worry about getting from A to Z. Start with Step B. (Step A was all the thinking about it, the daydreaming, the research and the web surfing … which you have already done.)
What’s one thing you could do that would move you one millimeter closer to what you want to be doing in the world?
Do that. Now.
And then — the formula is really simple:
Perform 3 actions each week that move you closer to your goal.
Do this for 3 months. (Not one month.)
Do not judge or evaluate anything about your progress until you have all 3 months to consider.
5) If you were to offer one of your services or products that best represents what you do, what would it be and how can the readers find out more?
I have a personal intuitive development course that teaches you how to access your psychic abilities, communicate with your higher self, and retrieve messages from your guides.
Thank you, Jenny, and great to meet you, Slade! I love where you’re coming from and I had to laugh out loud when I read this: “You have everything you need, in this moment, to take the next step. Don’t worry about getting from A to Z. Start with Step B.” That is now my new motto as I bring my new healing center, A-Z Healing Space, to life! Thank you, Slade. I look forward to more of your message and your brilliance!
I always love having you here Reba! I think you and Slade would have LOTS to talk about! I am so excited about your healing center and also LOVE Slade’s quote. So many times we think we need more or are waiting for something else before we take that next leap of faith. When we do have this belief in ourselves and the Universe that taking that next step will lead to the next – we allow the magic of the Universe to unfold! Sending much love to you both! <3
Hi Julia, I am a recovering perfectionist too! I know Slade’s quote to be true but sometimes I still find myself putting pressure on myself to do more and be more. When I do find those moments of presence to sink into all that I already am – what a beautiful space that is! Sending lots of love – thank you for reading.
This is exactly what I needed to hear today: “You’re not missing anything.” That’s one of my bugaboos, and it’d been kicking my butt. So, thank you, Slade! And from one novelist to another, may your books find your perfect audience!
Hi Susan, I sometimes struggle with that one too – looking outside me for signs that it is “safe” to take that next step. Even though it has been proven to me time and time again taking that step IS the next step! Slade’s writing is wonderful Susan! I wish you both lots of success! <3
Great interview Jenny and Slade. I love your 3 step formula 😉 and especially the 3rd step about non being judgemental about the progress which we know we can fall in to that trap easily. I have just downloaded the ebook and looking forward to practising it.
Hi Jonita, I am so glad you downloaded Slade’s ebook. I have learned a lot from him! Ah that being non judgmental with self can be so challenging!! I have gotten a litttlllleee bit better over the last 10 years but it still comes up! If we are kind to ourselves that part will last a shorter time and come up less and less often. Sending much love -thank you for being here!

Thank you, Reba!
You’re the second healer I’ve know named Reba. 😉
I wish you the best with your new healing center. Drop me a line and let me know how it’s coming along.
Now this I love: “You are already everything you’ve ever wanted to become. You fulfill your life purpose with every breath you take.”
As a recovering perfectionist that really speaks to me. Thank you both, I found this such an interesting read.
